Where did you get the sulky tinsel/thread?!! All the flies tied with it look like fish-getters (what a stupid, made-up word… ). I really like the mayfly nymphs 2nd and 3rd from last.
Sulky Thread: In Rochester MN it can be found at Joann Fabrics and Hancock Fabric, I’m sure you can find it at most fabric stores. The spools are 250yrds for about $3.50. I took empty thread spools and my drill and re-spooled it to use with my bobbin. The colors they have are great, I plan to get back there for a few others, for sure the dark Red. The thread is called HoloShimmer.
Some notes about working with it:
1. it compares to a 70 denier thread as far as strenght so you have to go easy with it.
2. perhaps it was how I wound the spools with my drill but it seemed to want to curl a bit and I would have to spin my bobbin to lay the thread flat again before it broke.
3. I also applied it by tying in a section of it and wrapping the body forward very tightly to form a gapless finish.
I think it has it’s place at my bench, the blues, greens, reds, yellow, gold, white gold. They have alot of possibilities. It is thin and is pretty much like tying with the smallest tinsel that you can buy at a fly shop. Plus 250 yards should last you until you can’t tie flies anymore.
Brian, let me know if you can’t find it and I will ship you some pronto.
Thoughts? Dope like the driven snow. Nice work. I love that WD-40.

Area Report:
1/9/11: It's been unsually warm around the region, take advantage of the enjoyable weather, get out there and keep your eye open for midge. Bugs have been in the air but the trout have yet to really key in on them. Fishing streamers and small nymphs have been the most effective for me so far this season. Water levels appear to be low on most systems, take this into consideration and lengthen your leader, go slower, stay lower and target deeper faster water if possible. Good luck!

It’s hard to believe you’ve only been tying for a year. Those are solid ties. You’ve raise the bar for others; a natural!
