I tied these on a standard length #11 hook. I was shown this fly and told that it lived up to it’s name. Something about the extended body sitting in the surface film must set the trout off. I believe it imitates a stonefly more than anything but I am going to chuck it like a general attactor dry fly, hang a dropper off the end and fish it similar to a Stimulator, I expect it will take a few trout.
Been looking through your writings and photos for a long time and really enjoy everything you have done here. You have a great site and your ties are fantastic. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Ben, I’ll check your site out. Curious whats going on with your wanderings… I take alot of pride in my flies and I have a bit of OCD making for a bit of a perfectionist, sometimes I wonder if they were just thrown together how they would perform in comparison.
Thanks Paul, I have the Trico’s coming soon. I hope I can get on a few good hours of that in the next month. This was a fun fly for me to tie. Take care.

Area Report:
1/9/11: It's been unsually warm around the region, take advantage of the enjoyable weather, get out there and keep your eye open for midge. Bugs have been in the air but the trout have yet to really key in on them. Fishing streamers and small nymphs have been the most effective for me so far this season. Water levels appear to be low on most systems, take this into consideration and lengthen your leader, go slower, stay lower and target deeper faster water if possible. Good luck!

Very cool. Caddis? Terrestrial? Seems a really interesting mix of the Matthews’ X-Caddis, Adams Irresistible, and a Goddard caddis. What size, approx?

Very nice fly…much like the rest of your patterns. I agree it reminds me of an adams. I look forward to seeing your trico creations…
